The Smirnoff Pitch

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

So, the re-branded Carrot Sticks with Dip presented the Smirnoff presentation under the new name of FuseBox. The initial idea that we had was to transform Smirnoff into a sophisticated, classy brand for females to move away from the association that Smirnoff has regarding drink and loutish behaviour. To do this we thought about a tie up with the fashion industry, allowing for a glamour competition to be envisaged for the public to enter, allowing for our consumers to become integrated and involved with our brand.

The presentation went well even with a slight miscommunication regarding the schedule for the morning, as we envisaged that period to be our prep time. In reality however that time was spent doing the initial round of presentations, heats if you will. With hurried together presentation, we were still able to hit all of our targets, mentioning the brand that we were promoting, describing our agency and proofing our prototypes for exposure. We did receive some pointers back which were as always helpful and constructive from Mik and Nick, however we were unfortunate not to be chosen.

Big Seed Wagon Wheels Start To Roll

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Well, after countless hours of market research, creative thinking and good old fashioned hard work, the big day has come. Today, Big Seed are pitching their marketing strategy to Burton Foods. We’ve got a solid campaign which we’re very happy with.

To target the under 15s we’ve put together a cohesive strategy that makes use of technology and guerrilla marketing tactics. The tactics are held together by an overarching narrative. We’ve decided to launch the new White Wagon Wheel by creating a story to back up the campaign. The story is that a renegade band of White Wagon Wheels have escaped from Burton Foods’ factory, and are hiding out as outlaws up and down the country. We need the target audience’s help to track them down. There’ll be publicity stunts based around the nation, which include a team of special Wagon Wheel Cowboys (actors hired to patrol the streets, communicate with the target audience and essentially ‘hunt the Wagon Wheels’). Children and young teenagers can approach these cowboys at any time and report sightings of rogue Wagon Wheels. As a reward, they’ll be given a voucher which entitles them to a free Wagon Wheel. To claim their reward, they must log on to the specially designed website. There, they will find an interactive map with reported sightings, and will be encouraged to upload their own footage and photos of the Wagon Wheels and Cowboys.  Each time they upload footage, they’ll be automatically entered into a prize draw with the opportunity to win a year’s supply of Wagon Wheels.

These tactics are backed up by television ads and viral marketing tactics (such as teaser ads released on platforms such as YouTube), as well as paper advertising (such as posters).
Our main aim is to get our target market excited about the product again, and we feel we can do that by presenting them with a chance to really get involved in the campaign, rather than just having it spoon fed to them. Fingers crossed Burton Foods shares our enthusiasm!

If you want to follow our campaign, head on over to Twitter. Our name is NewWagonWheel.

Also, you can see the photos of the new White Wagon Wheels over on flickr, and watch out for the photos sent in from people who have caught them!  The name is Wagon_Wheel.

Oh My Cod!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Oh my cod! The last few days at Spiral Media have haven’t half kicked up a storm!

Not only have we managed to get Kelly Holmes onboard with our campaign, but “youtube” has gone mad over the idea.

They simply loved the campaign and the ‘360’ level of coverage it could bring. Online video diaries, advertisements, on the day streaming, promotion of the event – they just couldn’t say no to us. So, with a budget of 20K, we set out to not only promote our provider, youtube, as best we could, but to get as much money to this great cause and its amazing supporters, the racers, as we could.

We concluded that, yes our value should be in promoting the cause, but in reality, we need to promote the individuals fighting for the cause. Those who are running the 5ks and raising money. Their stories. Their training. Their struggle.

Here at Spiral, we don’t want to just sponsor and gain a small buzz in sales, we want to make a difference to the world and use our provider, youtube, wholeheartedly, and change the world. We know that with a formidable force of racing women with the power of youtube and its community of worldwide users behind them we can make a difference to the world!

So, let’s put on our thinking caps and really make a difference here. Not only promote youtube but promote the people that make it exist. Promote the world that encompasses youtube and use its power to make something positive happen.

We dream that advertisement should coincide with care.

Here at Spiral, we’re guna’ make that dream come true.

Stuff that went and got did

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

So… This is the stuff that went and got did. Or as a more grammatical fellow might put it “Greetings blog writing chums, here is an in depth diary of day one. Tally ho! Enjoy! … I miss my wife”

The challenge was set. Oh indeed it was. Guava ,who are a highly successful ad company and by no means some odd made up pile of s**t, were given the duty of selling the Segway.

Never heard of a Segway? Not many have… Cue… RESEARCH! Oh yes! RESEARCH! Professional hey!

The research was at first hard until one rather quick witted member of the group suggested typing Segway into Google and all of a sudden it got quite a bit easier. What became immediately clear was that the Segway was so much more than the rather odd transportation thingy we all thought it was.

You could get set types! With different functions! An off roader for those crazy beer fueled adventures! One that had a little shopping basket for all those shopping adventures! And one that served as a wee little  caddy for all your golfing adventures!

And that of course is when everyone’s brains clicked together like a 3 dimensional puzzle of sheer and eclectic joy. That was in! A target audience crashed around us like a wave that has gone and got itself self! Those silly eccentric, rich gentlemen who would want one for their golfing times, or even for just buzzing about the house because quite simply they can.

And soon everyone went and got given jobs (that’s nice isn’t it? Team work is so very sexy).

I hope you are as excitied as I am!

Guava = the future?

I think so….

History Of Guava (Oooh Eck! That’s a bit good init?)

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

1447. Arnold Guava decided to fun and create his own independent advertising agency. He named it Guava after his favorite fruit. The connection to his surname was a massive coincidence he wouldn’t notice until 3 decades later.

His sole intention was to provide advertising opportunities for the segway, but given how it had yet to be invented he waisted his time advertising other products. In 1981 Guava faced their first fall from grace. At the peak of their commercial success their highly controversial “Free the Paedos” campaign saw Guava face potential close.

Yet since then the ingenious mind at this awesome agency have bonded together to produce some of the greatest ads of the last 6 days.

Among them, to aid the anti-child abuse charity “Nobody Knows” a 500 man flash mob hid their noses for 36 seconds in Trafalgar square as well as their infamous viral ad promoting the use of the internet. Over 20 million people used the internet that day. It was a huge success.

Thank you dearly my darling… that is Guava… finally getting the oppertunity to promote the Segway like their founder always wanted.

They got 50,00. They got support sponsor. And one of them got a cold but that’s completely unrelated to the list of criteria that was handed out.

That is GUAVA!

Now go away… this owl isn’t going to wax itself.

Exciting News For Big Seed!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Big Seed is moving on to the next thrilling project. We’ve been commissioned by Burton’s Foods to start a new ad campaign which involves rejuvenating their famous Wagon Wheels.
The company wants to make the product exciting for a younger audience, and to push it firmly back into the public eye. This is where Big Seed comes in – we’ve been commissioned to put together an innovative new advertising campaign which gets the target audience (under 15s) really excited about Wagon Wheels again. We all remember them from our childhood, but they’ve fallen off the radar a little recently.

With Big Seed’s skill, though, we’re going to get kids loving them again. Because we’re dedicated to providing cutting-edge services, we’re tackling this with a series of guerrilla, stunt-based and viral campaigns, as well as using technology to our advantage. We want to scatter Wagon Wheels across the media board.

The campaign is focussed around the launch of the white-chocolate Wagon Wheel – a new product for a new generation. Big Seed have developed a cohesive and young person-friendly campaign which really gets the consumers involved. This looks like it’s going to be pretty exciting!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Things are moving swiftly.
Ad Campaign is looking great with some great ideas its just really great.

We have had a long hard discussion talking about our ideas and we have decided on a new and exciting opportunity for the consumers of Smirnoff.

Our plan is to launch a re-brand of Smirnoff moving into the world of fashion. We are going to create a campaign called ‘FIND A FACE’. This will be a national search to find the face of Smirnoff.

There will be lots of online content and interactivity to engage the consumers minds – a fashion show, touring buses, public vote, celebrity input etc. will all be a part of the ‘FIND A FACE’ campaign.

The new website is in creation and along with the finer details of the whole project being completed this afternoon.

Fusebox are working well together, things are happening fast and we’re all really inspired about the project. This could be our best yet – the ONE!

We’ll update you later.

Target Audience research

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Our target audience for this was rich and female for any age group.

In terms of interactivity we wanted to involve our target audience with user generated content on the website, such as using Twitter for numerous audience discourse and allowing users to film their experience of the event and upload their videos to the website. This is just one of the objectives completed today, others included drafting a mock up website, logo design and mood boards.

Attached is a link to  our flickr feed showing our progress:
